Armenian tragedy protested in Brussels

Roni Alasor / 2 October 2023 - Middle East Diplomatic - Thousands of angry Armenians gathered in the EU institution’s Square Schuman in Brussels and protested the dramatic situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, where the majority of the Armenian population were living.

While the protesters accused Azerbaijan and Turkey of occupation and a new Armenian genocide, they also harshly criticized the European Union and super power states that control the domination of the world.

The protest rally was organised by the “Europeans for Artsakh” initiative, comprised of representatives of the Armenian communities from across Europe and over 500 European Armenian associations.

Protesters show strong solidarity with over 100.000 Armenian refuge who had to leave Nagorno-Karabakh region in a dramatically way. Angry Armenians shouted slogans “Nagorno-Karabakh is Armenian homeland and that it should remain so”.

The Pan Armenian protest took place just few days ahead of the third summit of the European Political Community  where summit includes a meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, mediated by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Protesters urge the EU and the international community to help more than 100.000 Armenian refuges who had to escape to Armenia after 9 months blockade. Armenians also ask to the EU and the international community to find a long term peaceful solution in the “frozen” NK conflict which has been abused dramatically by the regional powers, especially by Russia-Turkey-Iran.
